Opportunity: Master and Doctoral Degree MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship via University Recommendation for September 2021 Enrollment

Embassy Recommendation is a way for students to apply through a selection process that is held by the Japanese Embassy in their respective countries.

University Recommendation is for students who want to apply straight to their preferred university and follow the chosen university’s selection process.

You can also apply through the university recommendation by checking out the university’s website and contact a professor that teaches there to gain more knowledge. Not only that, you can provide them more points about how serious you are to learn in that university.

Facility provided by the Scholarship

• Allowance (¥143,000 per month for master’s degree and ¥144,000 per month for doctoral degree), not including supplemental regional allowance
• Education fees
• Round airfare traveling expenses
• Student visa
• A dormitory system (depending on which university you applied)
• Not obligated to work for Japanese government after graduation

Terms & Conditions

In order to be eligible for the program, the students must agree to the terms and conditions, which are:

• Max. age of 34 years old by the time of the enrollment
• Hold an Associate (D4), Bachelor’s (S1), or Master’s (S2) degree 
• Choose the same or related major to the previous one
• Have achieved a GPA of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale at their most recent university
• Providing either Japanese or English proficiency certificate
• Providing research plan
• Providing other files such as diploma, academic transcripts, recommendation letter(s), etc. (depending on the terms and requirements of the university)
• Letter of acceptance from a professor of the applied university
• Physically and mentally healthy
• Willing to learn Japanese for those who haven’t had the chance to study Japanese
