[unpad.ac.id, 06/10/2020] Universitas Padjadjaran, through the Faculty of Law, collaborated with the People’s Consultative Assembly or the MPR RI. The collaboration was carried out in order to send a number of state civil apparatus (ASN) to the Secretariat General of the MPR RI to take doctoral education in the Postgraduate Program of Unpad Faculty of Law.

The cooperation was carried out in a virtual meeting held by the MPR RI and Unpad, Monday (05/10). In the meeting, the Chairman of the MPR RI Bambang Soesatyo was present, while from Unpad’s side, the Vice Rector for Resources and Finance, Prof. Dr. Ida Nurlinda, the Dean of Unpad Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. An An Chandrawulan, the Manager of Research, Innovation, and Partnership, Dr. Prita Amalia, as well as the Head of Doctoral Study of Law, Unpad Faculty of Law, Dr. Indra Perwira.

In his speech, Bambang Soesatyo, or familiarly called Bamsoet, explained that as many as fourteen ASN of the Secretariat General of the MPR RI will continue their study at the Unpad Postgraduate Faculty of Law. In the future, he would fully support the members and officers of MPR RI who will also continue their study to a higher level.

“The word ‘stop’ does not exist in taking education. Moreover, ASNs, public officials, and police officers who work in the public service sector need to further develop themselves and enrich their knowledge to support their work,” said Bamsoet as quoted by Antara.

Bamsoet also emphasized that prospective students must complete their doctoral studies at Unpad in totality, even with heavy workload and other routines.

It was hoped that this educational cooperation with Unpad would increase the number of qualified doctoral graduates in Indonesia. This was done considering the number of Indonesians with Doctorate degrees was still below 100,000 people in 2019.

Apart from becoming qualified doctors, prospective students are also encouraged to increase the number of international publications in Indonesia.

“This is necessary considering that [the number of] Indonesia’s scientific publications are still very small,” said Bamsoet.*
