[unpad.ac.id, 17/4/2020] The Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) Laboratory in the Universitas Padjadjaran Central Laboratory building has been certified by Basler & Hoffmann Singapore Pte. Ltd., as of March 24, 2020. This means that the BSL-3 Lab at Unpad is ready to be used as a COVID-19 sample testing site.
BSL-3 Labs are special laboratories for research activities that require a high level of security, such as research on TB, MDR, HIV, and Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov) which causes in COVID-19. Therefore, this lab applies high safety standards.
Unpad Rector Prof. Dr. Rina Indiastuti, M.SIE., said that the activation of Unpad’s BSL-3 Lab is expected to break the Coronavirus pandemic chain in Indonesia.
The laboratory was completed in 2019 through funding from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and is perfecting the technical preparation of lab testing for COVID-19 samples using Realtime Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
With the support of BSL-3 Lab, it is targeted that around 30 thousand samples can be tested, with a testing speed of around 1000 samples per day.
