[unpad.ac.id, 29/10/2020] Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) is included in the Times Higher Education or THE World University Rankings by Subject 2021, according to the announcement released on Wednesday (28/10) at 09:00 a.m., London time. This is the first time for Unpad to enter the rankings.
THE World University Rankings by Subject specifically assessed the scientific fields in universities. In total, there are eleven clusters of scientific fields that THE WUR by Subject evaluated.
This year, five scientific fields in Unpad have successfully entered the ranking. The five fields of science are Business and Economics (ranked 601+), Clinical, Pre-clinical, and Health (ranked 601+), Engineering and Technology (ranked 801-1000), Life Sciences (ranked 801+), and Social Sciences (ranked 601+).
The Rector of Unpad, Prof. Rina Indiastuti, said that THE World University Rankings by Subject is very important to evaluate whether a university can be categorized as a top university at the world-level.
The five fields that got into the ranking have recorded an increase in academic performance as well as collaboration with international affiliations.
“It means that the five fields of knowledge in Unpad, after being assessed using the ranking indicator of THE WUR by Subject, are categorized as fields that are able to show relatively good academic performance and are taken into account among world universities,” the Rector said.
The Rector evaluated that the criteria of improving performance in said fields include an improvement of the ecosystem and the quality of learning; an increase of research and publications; an increase of the involvement of foreign lecturers, researchers, and students at Unpad; as well as an increase of collaboration with the industry.
“The similarity of movement and strong synergy between managers at the university and faculty levels in encouraging the internationalization of Unpad are important factors,” the Rector said.
Another important factor is the increased participation of professors and lecturers in establishing partnerships with universities and international institutions.
The strengthening of academic performance is surely not limited to five fields of knowledge. Since mid-2020, the achievement of increasing academic reputation per field of knowledge has been accelerated through the “Pradja Brata” program.
Through this program, Unpad is committed to giving appreciation for the fields of knowledge or faculty that are able to improve their academic performance according to the world-class university ranking indicators.
Also, various work programs related to the accelerated internationalization of Unpad have become a priority.
“We expect that Unpad will strengthen its ranking in the WUR ranking, whether in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) WUR or THE WUR, for both university and fields of knowledge,” the Rector remarked.
The Head of Unpad International Office, Ronny, dr., M.Kes., Ph.D., AIFO said that more fields of knowledge in Unpad may be matrixed in THE World University Rankings by Subject next year.
“Hopefully, all eleven fields of knowledge will get their international recognition under Unpad’s visions and missions,” Ronny said.*
