[unpad.ac.id, 27/09/2020] Several Russian Literature students from Universitas Padjadjaran’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB Unpad) are taking Russian language courses in collaboration with Moscow Pedagogical State University (MPGU). Lectures are conducted online for one semester starting September 21st, 2020, taught by lecturers from MPGU.

The Head of the Russian Literature Study Program Ani Rachmat M.Hum., PhD., said that the collaboration between FIB Unpad and MPGU itself had been established since the end of 2019, through the signing of a letter of agreement between FIB Unpad and ANO Etnosfera as one of the educational organizations from Russia. Representing Unpad, this collaboration is coordinated by Russian Literature Lecturer, Susi Machdalena, M.Hum., Ph.D.

“Originally, it was an initiative from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, because they wanted to develop Russian language courses. Then, they appointed Etnosfera to implement it and MPGU as a supporter of this program,” said Ani when contacted by the Unpad Public Communication Office, Sunday (27/9).

This collaborative activity between the two parties was executed through the establishment of the Russian Language Teaching and Education Center at the Dean Building of FIB Unpad. Unpad students can learn the Russian language and culture with the various facilities available through the help of Etnosfera.

One of the activities carried out through these facilities is Russian language and culture courses for Unpad students from MPGU. Given the pandemic situation, the course is eventually being carried out online.

“[The course] just started this semester. The first day of classes began on the 21st, and that’s every Monday for this semester for 12 to 14 meetings,” explained Ani.

This lecture activity is intended to increase knowledge of Russian language and culture, as well as improve students’ fluency in speaking Russian. This activity is integrated into one of the courses in Russian Literature, FIB Unpad.

Apart from introducing language and culture to Unpad students, in the future the cooperation will also be developed through a number of activities, including training of teaching methodologies for Unpad lecturers, as well as exhibition and seminar activities. Russian language training for the general public has also been planned.

“Hopefully, with this collaboration, students and lecturers will be more active in mastering the language. It is also hoped that more Indonesians will be more familiar with Russia. The Russian Literature major from FIB Unpad will also be better known,” hoped Ani. (arm)*
