[unpad.ac.id, 28/9/2020] Universitas Padjadjaran, through its Center of Digital Innovation Studies (Digits) of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) became one of the implementing partners for the Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) of the Thematic Academy (TA) organized by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. FEB Unpad will conduct training with the theme “Big Data for Social Science”.

Thematic Academy (TA) is one of the academies of the Digital Talent Scholarship in 2020 which is specifically aimed at certain industrial sectors or groups, where the curriculum has been adjusted to the needs of the industry.

The Chairman of Digits Unpad, Dr. rer.pol. Hamzah Ritchi, said that the study center has been trusted to be the implementing partner of DTS since 2018. This is the third year for FEB Unpad to be one of the organizers of the DTS program.

“Digits is able to answer the needs of the DTS program because it is in line with Digits’ vision, which is to provide a sustainable contribution to the digital innovation community through research, collaboration, and training. In addition, as a study center, Digits FEB has the scientific capacity to answer the Ministry’s needs of technology and business,” said Richi when contacted by the Unpad Public Communication Office, Monday (28/9).

With this program, Ritchi also hoped that Unpad, through FEB and Digits, could become both a link and a driving force for Indonesia’s digital innovation through talent development and research.

On the other hand, the Chief Executive of DTS TA Unpad, Irsyad Kamal, MBA, revealed that the program will be held in four batches with approximately 50 people participating for each batch.

The first batch will be held from 28 September to 9 October, the second from 12 to 23 October, the third from 2 to 13 November, and the fourth from 16 to 27 November.

“Currently, we combine synchronous and asynchronous systems. There is also a face-to-face meeting. In the previous year, there was no face-to-face interaction,” said Kamal.

The participants are university graduates of the social science program from the S-1/D-III/D-IV levels throughout Indonesia.

“Here lies the difference. Most of the time, big data is synonymous with programs in science. Because we see the need for social science to use big data, this program is intended for the graduates of social science,” said Kamal.

In this training, participants will be given materials, starting from how to gather data to how to present it. Acting as presenters are a number of lecturers of the Digital Business Study Program, FEB Unpad.

“The skills that participants will gain are that they will become more proficient and capable to analyze data,” said Kamal.

Through the TA Digital Talent Scholarship program, Kamal hoped that big data will evolve in social sciences or humanities. Innovation is also expected to continue to grow in this field.

“DTS is a good program, our collaboration has been ongoing for three consecutive years, hopefully next year we can collaborate even more,” hoped Kamal.

The DTS TA event itself was officially opened online on Monday (28/9) by Dr. Ir. Basuki Yusuf Iskandar, M.A., the Head of the Research and Development Agency for Human Resources of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. Basuki said that this activity was held to create digital talents in Indonesia to meet the needs of the industry.

This year’s DTS TA activities will be held for five themes, namely IT Banking, IT Project Management, Big Data for Social Science, Digital Marketing, and IT for Former Migrant Workers. (arm)*
