[unpad.ac.id,\n9\/30\/2019] Students from Mathematics Study Program Faculty of Mathematics and\nNatural Science Universitas Padjadjaran won two champions at the Mathematical\nChallenge Festival-Mathematics Modelling Competition 2019 (MCF-MMC 2019) held\nby Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) last Friday (9\/27).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition,\nwhich was organized by the Kelompok Keahlian Matematika Industri dan Keuangan\n(KK MIK) FMIPA ITB, was attended by around 20 teams from 10 universities in\nIndonesia. Participants of this competition were not only from Mathematics and\nStatistics study programs, but there were also from Computer Science Study\nPrograms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the event,\nUnpad Mathematics students the won first and second place in the modeling\ncompetition category. The first prize was won by “Pawesome Team”\nconsisting of Putri Romhadhoni, Audi Luqmanul Hakim Achmad and Wahyu\nSuryaningrat. While the second-place winner was “Team Zimzalabim”\nconsisting of Ani Oktaviyani, Alysha Putri Salsabila, and Rahmah Arie Agustini.\nThe two teams were assisted by Unpad Mathematics Study Program lecturer, Dr.\nDiah Chaerani, M.Si.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the modeling\ncompetition category, students were faced with the theme of “opening a new\nshop”. The problem that must be answered by participants on the theme was\ndetermining the right location to open new shops and how many shops should be\nopened as there was an initiation from the directors of the company to expand\nits product range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the release\nreceived by the Office of Public Communications, each team determined the\nestablishment of new stores with different products. The Pawesome team chose\nthe problem of establishing a rice shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking data from\nStatistics Indonesia related to the problem of rice supply shortages in\nTasikmalaya, the team then identified the location and number of new rice shops\nto be built in Tasikmalaya using the Optimization model through the Maximum\nCovering Location Problem approach to maximize profits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the\nZimzalabim Team chose the problem of establishing gas stations in the city of\nPalembang. This issue was raised considering that transportation is an\nessential need for the people of Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To answer the\nproblem of determining the location of new gas stations, Cost Comparison Method\nand the Optimized Capacitated Facility Location Problem Model by minimizing the\ntotal costs incurred in constructing the gas stations were used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition,\nwith the help of ArcGIS and Maple 15 software, the locations of new gas\nstations could be determined and optimal numerical results could be obtained.\nThe modeling results of these two teams defeated 20 teams from 10 universities\nin Indonesia. *<\/p>\n\n\n\n
