Dean of FPIK Unpad, Dr.sc.agr. Yudi Nurul Ihsan,\nM.Si., was also present during this general lecture. In his opening remarks,\nDr. Yudi expressed his hopes to strengthen cooperation between Universitas\nPadjadjaran and universities in Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Some FPIK Unpad students have the desire to\ncontinue their education in Ireland. This general lecture is expected to be\nable to broaden students’ insights and knowledge about the marine and fisheries\nsector in Ireland,” explained Dr. Yudi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the general lecture, Carol gave a brief\ndescription of the country of Ireland. “Ireland is a country with a fairly\nsmall area but has five provinces, namely Ulster, Connacht, Meath, Leinster and\nMunster, each with their own history,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Captain Reen also delivered a general\nlecture with the theme “Role of Marine Science in Marine Resources\nSustainability”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Captain Reen said that Ireland is a maritime\ncountry with a vast marine territory. “Speaking of the sea, we will also\ntalk about shipping, fisheries, recreation, coastal communities and the\nenvironment,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unwittingly, shipping has become an important\ncomponent of Ireland. “Many raw materials for daily necessities are\ntransported using ship rather than air transport,” said Captain Reen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Captain Reen explained that to\nmaintain the sustainability of marine resources, Ireland made changes by\nfocusing on fisheries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Fisheries in Ireland no longer use\ntraditional wooden boats. Additionally, Ireland has large fish farms to support\nthe fisheries sector,” explained Captain Reen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Captain Reen advised that students, especially\nthose from maritime countries, can make changes to ensure that the future of\nthe sea is headed in a better direction. “We can start by reducing the use\nof plastic, which has a huge impact on the sea,” said Captain Reen.*<\/p>\n\n\n\n
