Up to these days, the interest of young people in agriculture is
still low.

“Perhaps through new technology, agriculture no longer has
to be covered-in-dirt type work. This is so that young people want to return to
agriculture again, “said Prof. Ismunandar the keynote speaker at the Seminar
and Workshop of the Indonesian Agricultural College Communication Forum which
was held at Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jalan Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung,
Monday (9/23).

This seminar, which was held in the 60th Dies Natalis of the
Faculty of Agriculture Unpad, was collaborating with FKPTPI.

In addition to reorienting the agricultural higher education
curriculum, students also need to be equipped with data literacy skills. This
capability will produce various analysis of agricultural data in the form of
representations that are easily seen.

“So that our graduates are not replaced by robots, in
addition to being proficient in their field of science, graduates must also be
equipped with new literacies,” said Prof. Ismunandar.

Meanwhile, the Acting Rector of Unpad, Prof. Dr. Rina
Indiastuti, M.SIE., said that the most important implication today is preparing
college graduates who are able to respond quickly to the development of the 4.0
industrial revolution in this digital era.

“Reorienting the education curriculum is a keyword so that
it can fill the needs of agricultural human resources so that Indonesia can
remain an agrarian country,” said Prof. Rina.

Besides reorienting the curriculum, Prof. Rina also encouraged a
breakthrough in the learning system that included practitioners as lecturers in
tertiary institutions.

“Not only the curriculum but education in agriculture can
involve practitioners and working partners as a comprehensive briefing for
students and graduates so that they can face the challenges of the industrial
revolution 4.0,” said Prof. Rina.

FKPTPI Secretary-General and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture
Unpad, Dr. Ir. H. Sudarjat, M.P., explained that the seminar and workshop were
expected to formulate a curriculum related to changes due to the industrial
revolution 4.0.

“So, we can formulate what support is needed to strengthen
vocationally and applied scholars in agriculture,” said Dr. Sudarjat.

Chairman of the 2019 FKPTPI National Seminar and Workshop
Committee Dr.rer.pol Ernah, S.P., said, the participants who attended the
National Seminar and Workshop were approximately 623 people from various
Faculties of Agriculture in 165 universities throughout Indonesia.*

Reported by Rana Aushaf dan Arief Maulana/am.

Translated by Trisha Adelia

Instagram: @internationalofficeunpad
LikedIn: International Office Universitas Padjadjaran
Twitter: @upgrade_io
Facebook: Universitas Padjadjaran’s Global Relation and Advancements
Website: international.unpad.ac.id

[unpad.ac.id, 9/23/2019] Indonesia’s agricultural sector must be prepared to face a number of challenges in the industrial revolution era 4.0.
