In this project funded by the European Union in the Horizon
2020 program, Unpad is appointed as the host of the consortium.

The UCD workshop is attended by all consortium members:
Germany International Partnership Foundation (GIZ), Agrartechnik Witzenhausen
Universität Kassel (Jerman), Latvia University of Life Sciences and
Technologies (Latvia), University of Graz (Austria), Labtek Indie/Primary
Indonesia, Iceaddis-Holetha (Ethiopia), and Unpad. Other than that, a number of
stakeholders also attended such as Common Room, the West Java Regional Research
and Development Institution (BP2D), West Java branch of the Indonesian
Beekeeping Association (API), and Perhutani.

At the opening on the first day, the participants talked
about the condition of bees in Indonesia, Europe, and Ethiopia.

Robert Brodschneider from University of Graz, Austria, told
that honeybees are important for farmers from the products they produce, such
as honey, pollen, wax, royal jelly, and bee pollen. Other than that, they are
important for pollination of farm plants.

Explained by Robert, the factors that threaten the bees are
various diseases, farming chemicals (especially pesticides containing
neonicotinoid), food shortage, climate change, as well as the less-than-stellar
bee colony management.

The advisory board of the Indonesian Beekeeping Association
in the West Java region, H. Rosjid M.S said that there is at least eight
important factors in developing honey bees in Indonesia. The eight factors are
the type of bee to be kept, bee food availability, breeding location, tools
used, honey production and its byproducts, HR quality (the bee farmers), a
supportive market, as well as quaint capital investment. If one of the factors
are set aside, the beekeeping development in Indonesia won’t be able to develop
well.

To support this project, Apida Jabar is ready to contribute
and link with the supplier of land for Apis Mellifera bee farms in Central and
East Java, especially for the implementation of SAMS. The areas used are Pati,
Candiroto, and Pasuruan.

Meanwhile, Yusrie Satrawan from Sukabumi region Perhutani
said that the decline of bee colonies in West Java is caused by a change in use
of land from forest area to industrial area or residence. Other than that, the
intensive farming with pesticide is hard to control, ruining the habitat and
ecosystem and directly causing a decline in bee colonies.

At the end of the workshop, the SAMS Indonesia team signed a
letter of willingness to be a member of the advisory board. The parties
involved as advisory board are the Apida Jabar represented by H. Rasjid MS, The
Local Enablers represented by Rois Solihin STP., MT, as well as BP2D
represented by Eka Jatnika Sundana, ST., M.Sc. In this opportunity, SITH ITB
also stated their willingness to be a member of the advisory board even if they
cannot send a representative.

Release/art
Translated by Dinda Ayu Maharani

Instagram: @internationalofficeunpad
LikedIn : International Office Universitas Padjadjaran
Twitter : @upgrade_io
Facebook : Universitas Padjadjaran’s Global Relation and Advancements
Website : international.unpad.ac.id

[unpad.ac.id, 5/7/2019] Smart Apiculture Management Services (SAMS) Indonesia team held the second User Centered Design (UCD) workshop at the Unpad Faculty of Law library auditorium, Dipati Ukur Street No. 35 Bandung, Monday (1/7) to Sunday (7/7).
