They earned the title after winning a number of competitions\nin Pimitanas. Unpad placed first in the soil judging contest, poster contest,\nand quiz competition. Other than that, they also placed second in the\nscientific paper competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPilmitanas itself is a competition held by National Soil\nScience Communication Forum, which is held once in every two years,\u201d told\nAndrew Yoel when he was met with his partners at the Unpad Public Communication\nOffice, Friday (10\/5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the scientific paper competition (LKTI), the Unpad team\nbrought up the theme \u201cLocal Biodiversity Based Sustainable Farming System as an\nAttempt to Optimalize Degraded Land from Sand Mining\u201d. The LKTI team consists\nof Andrew Yol, Corrynta Melissa Tarigan, and Sri Muji Rahayu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHere we used a case study in Cimalaka Village, where it\u2019s\nfamous for sand mining. So we want to optimize degraded land from previous sand\nmining,\u201d explained Sri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Soil Judging Contest, Dika Kencana Putera, Lingga\nRahmawati, and Futri Fauziah represented the Unpad team. In this competition,\nDika and his team described the soil profile of a location specified by the\ncommittee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe soil judging contest is very practical, like a\npracticum. So we don\u2019t need to be indoors, we are really analyzing according to\nthe characteristics we know,\u201d said Dika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Resa Rismayanti took part in the poster competition.\nIn this competition, Resa presented her poster titled \u201cAgent of Change\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor the poster, I took [it] from a journal by an Unpad\nFaculty of Agriculture lecturer, Dr. Reginawanti Hindersah, Ir., M.P., and her\npartners. [The journal discuss] bioremediation, on land where there is\npreviously gold mining,\u201d told Resa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the quiz competition, Unpad was represented by Andrew\nYoel, Lingga Rahmawati, and Futri Fauziah. The quiz competition was on the\nbasics of soil science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s divided into two phases, the preliminary round, where\nwe have to do 50 problems in one minute on paper, then the three biggest scores\nproceed to the final round,\u201d said Andrew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To take part in the competition, Himatan Unpad did an\ninternal selection to have the best students represent Unpad in each\ncompetition. After the selection, the students were guided by the officers in\nthe student association, with a chance to consult lecturers and alumni. Routine\npractice was also held in each competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo we didn\u2019t study independently, we won because of the\nguidance (from lecturers),\u201d told Dika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first time Unpad becomes the general\nchampion in Pilmitanas. Unpad has been the general champion several times\nbefore in 2015, 2011, and 2009. After becoming the general champion once again,\nthey hope Himatan Unpad can do even better next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[We hope] Himatan can be a role model for other student\nassociations in Unpad, that a student association has to achieve something,\u201d\nsaid Andrew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
