In the consortium, Unpad was chosen as the representative of a\ndeveloping country. The RISE_SMA research projects aims to form an\ninterdisciplinary, international network involving scholars and practitioners\nin the field of social media to provide practical benefits and recommendations\nto the public and policy makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The RISE_SMA Consortium is headed by Prof. Dr. Stefan Stieglitz\nfrom the University of Duisburg-Essen. The RISE_SMA research project was officially\nstarted at the kickoff meeting held at the University of Duisburg-Essen,\nGerhard-Mercartor-Haus (LR) in Duisburg, Germany, from April 15-16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The kickoff meeting was attended by representatives of all the\nconsortium members. From Unpad, the meeting was attended by the coordinator of\nRISE_SMA Unpad, a professor and Head of the Center for Ethnoscience Studies at\nthe Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Prof. Dr. Budi Nurani\nRuchjana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During this meeting, discussions were held regarding the RISE_SMA\nConsortium’s research plan for the next 4 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The RISE_SMA Unpad team consists of Prof. Budi Nurani Ruchjana,\nDr. Atje Setiawan Abdullah, MS, M.Kom. Dr. Juli Rejito and Dr. Diah Chaerani.\nThis team is part of the Academic Leadership Grant (ALG) group of FMIPA Unpad\nwith the title “Development of Space Time Models and Their Applications to\nIndustry, Organizations and the Environment to Support the Common Goals of West\nJava”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ALG program presents an explanation of the importance of\ninformation technology in maintaining culture in the era of globalization. The\nresearch is carried out through an Ethno-informatics approach and using Knowledge\nDiscovery in Database methods in Data Mining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The approach and methods are accompanied by a mathematical and\nstatistical study of the model through a predictive analysis approach for time\nseries phenomena, spatial phenomena, and spatio-temporal phenomena, which can\ndescribe real phenomena in the field in relation to how society attempts to\novercome various communication crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The follow-up activity of the meeting is a one-month staff\nexchange program that RISE_SMA Unpad team is expected to take part in, along\nwith academic activities in the form of topic development discussions according\nto the presented material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, the team will also visit the University of Duisburg-Essen\nand Leiden University, and conduct workshops in collaboration with the Virtimo\nindustry in Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These activities are expected to culminate in prototype models\nbuilt with supporting software, application of data in the field to the\napplication of Social Media Analysis in describing and modeling communication\ncrises that occur in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ultimate goal of this research consortium is to be able to\nprovide benefits to the community through realizing the 11th Sustainable\nDevelopment Goal (Sustainable Cities and Communities), as well as realizing Unpad’s\nresearch pillars, especially the pillars of Cultural Diversity and Social\nHarmonization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another target of the RISE_SMA Consortium for the Unpad Team is to\nbecome a forum for collaboration in the implementation of information\ntechnology-based international research to provide benefits to the community\nwhile realizing the Unpad-West Java Strategic Alliance Program (ASUP Jabar), which\ninvolves collaboration between Unpad and Regency\/City governments in West Java\nprovince.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The participating institutions of the RISE_SMA Consortium are the\nUniversity of Duisburg-Essen (Germany), Leiden University (the Netherlands),\nthe University of Agder (Norway), the University of Sydney (Australia),\nQueensland University of Technology (Australia), Universidade do Vale do Rio\ndos Sinos (UNISINOS, Brazil), Universitas Padjadjaran (Indonesia), Virtimo AG (Germany),\nand the Municipality of Kristiansand (Norway).*<\/p>\n\n\n\n
