MacArthur said, Canada and Indonesia both have diverse\npeople. To achieve success in diversity, an inclusive society is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt means, everyone must have the same right and chance\nregardless of gender, race, religion, or others,\u201d said Peter MacArthur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In MacArthur\u2019s opinion, an inclusive society will give a\nbetter result for every group in society, including the majority group. The\nbest way to form an inclusive society is to have a representative democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn a democracy that is truly representative, it\u2019s very\nimportant for every person to use their right to vote and think critically to\ndecide whom to vote,\u201d spoke MacArthur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ambassador also encourage the students to use their\nright to vote properly. In his opinion, one vote can mean a lot for the future\nof a nation. One\u2019s suffrage is also a big responsibility for every individual,\ntherefore critical thinking is necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYour vote is important. Your vote will make a difference,\u201d\nsaid MacArthur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MacArthur compared it to making financial, career, or\neducation decisions that often require critical thinking. The same kind of\ncritical thinking is also needed when one wants to determine the future of a\nnation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRemember, the future of Indonesia is in your hands,\u201d the\nambassador stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In choosing a candidate, MacArthur also advised to ignore\nthe media and pay attention to the actual problem. It\u2019s important to observe\nall the hate speech and issues that tear the nation apart, as well as to learn\nfurther about what each candidate offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ambassador even said that it\u2019s important to talk to a\ncolleague that has a different view from yours, at least to learn it. \u201cYou\ndon\u2019t have to agree with their views, but you must consider it,\u201d told\nMacArthur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Unpad rector Prof Tri Hanggono Achmad said that\ncomplexity in diversity is a challenge that we must face. The diversity he\nspoke of is not just difference in race and religion, but also difference in\nmajors and professions. Diversity has become more complex with the digital era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFor the young, a classic diversity shouldn\u2019t be a problem\nanymore,\u201d said the rector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, interdependency should be the keyword to\nanswer the challenge. Interdependency is something that one must have over\ncollaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInterdependency is a must, because all of us depend on each\nother,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
