The topic of the FGD is \u201cOvercoming Political Risk of\nPost-Truth to Keep the National Security Stability in the National Defense\nFramework\u201d. A number of parties must properly respond the development of the\npost-truth phenomenon or the society\u2019s condition that is easily influenced by\nfalse values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unpad rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad, said that in\nresponding to this phenomenon, Indonesia must take part as a subject who\ncontributes in solving the problem. Lest Indonesia be merely the object of\nresolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe tsunami (big wave) of information that has become the\npost-truth catalyst, is a global issue. \nIt\u2019s reasonable that we must think of global solutions as well,\u201d said\nthe rector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This phenomenon also comes to the attention of Lemhanas RI.\nA member of the Expert Assessor (Taji) in the Leadership Sector of Lemhanas RI,\nGeneral Major of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Juwondo explained\nthat the FGD is intended to offer suggestions or recommendations of strategic\npolicy to the Governor of Lemhanas RI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Taji in Socio-Cultural Sector Brigjen TNI\nSugeng Santoso said, the post-truth phenomenon will develop further in the\ndigital era. This phenomenon contributes a lot to the political process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The success of Donald Trump in winning the US elections in\n2016 is an example of post-truth success. \u201cThe post-truth phenomenon is\ndeveloping further to the development of social media. Other than that, the\nsub-optimal political education and digital literacy to the public also\ncontribute in developing post-truth,\u201d spoke Sugeng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The discussion moderated by Head of Public Communication\nOffice, Syauqy Lukman, M.S.M., was attended by some Unpad leaders. Vice Rector of\nAcademic and Student Affairs, Dr. Arry Bainus M.A., who is also a political\nexpert from Unpad\u2019s Faculty of Social Science and Political Science explained,\nthe post-truth phenomenon is not something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even then, this phenomenon develops in an interactive way\nthanks to digital technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a battle between reality and perception, where\nobjectivity and rationality succumb to emotion,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Society, said Dr. Arry, must improve their literacy.\n[Getting oneself] used to respond to information in social media is also\nneeded. On the other side, regulation to limit hoax is also required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Communication expert and Dean of Unpad\u2019s Faculty of\nCommunication Sciences Dr. Dadang Rahmat Hidayat agreed, the spread of\npost-truth is due to the imbalance of valid datum verified by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The authorized institution must take part in delivering\nvalid datum that have been verified through open publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the explanations from the speakers, the discussion\nsession was continued with responses from Unpad experts, Dr. R. Widya Setiabudi\nSumadinata, S.Si., S.I.P., M.T., M.Han from the political perspective, Prof. Dr.\nHj. Hendriati Agustina, M.Si., and Aulia Inskandarsyah, Ph.D. from the\npsychological perspective, and R. Achmad Gusman Catur Siswandi, S.H., LL.M.,\nPh.D from the law perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The collective thoughts from academicians will be reference\nfor the Lemhanas RI team to formulate a strategic policy on the post-truth\nphenomena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBefore, we\u2019ve done discussions with different speakers, but\nthis is the first time for us to involve academicians. We verily expect that\nLemhanas RI can continue its partnership with Unpad in assessing other\nstrategic issues,\u201d stated Juwondo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
