[unpad.ac.id, 24/6/2020] “Isthmus” Team of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran succeeded in winning the 2020 Permira Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI) held by the Indonesian Student Association in Russia on May 28. This scientific paper competition utilized the Google Meet platform as a presentation media.
The members of the team were three Unpad biology students: Refani Dwiyani, Nurul Khofifah, and Mutia Oktaviani. The team raised the title of “GPS-Based Physical Distancing Alarm (CALCIA) Application to Support the Covid-19 Prevention Protocol”. In the competition, the team won third place with a total score of 422.8 points.
Nurul Khofifah in a release received by the Office of Public Communication Unpad explained, the theme raised by this team was in line with the theme of the activity, which was “The Role of Millennial Generation in Increasing Global Competitiveness in the Industrial Revolution Era 4.0”. This theme was then integrated with the current Covid-19 pandemic situation.
“The idea of this application is an effective solution to reduce the role of the community in minimizing the spread of Covid-19 by implementing physical distancing protocols. Positive responses were given by the three judges towards this idea and hope that this idea can be actualized,” Nurul wrote.
Under the guidance of Unpad Biology Lecturer Ruly Budiono, M.S., the team was declared to be one of the 10 selected finalists among the 48 participants. As finalists, the team had the opportunity to present their ideas before the judges through Google Meet.
Although the team did not have background in the field of information technology, it is not a barrier to the achievement. “Hopefully this achievement can motivate Unpad students to compete in various scientific events and remain productive in this pandemic condition,” concluded Nurul. (art)*
