FPIK Unpad Lecturers Receive International Research Grant to Research Indonesian Marine Debris

[unpad.ac.id, 4/5/2020] Two lecturers from the Universitas Padjadjaran Department of Marine Sciences at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK Unpad), Noir Primadona Purba, M.Si., and Ibnu Faizal, M.T., successfully received an international collaboration research grant from The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) – Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).

The 50,000 Pound sterling grant, equivalent to 900 million Rupiah, will involve collaboration with academics from the Energy System Laboratory of the University of Edinburgh, UK, Prof. Vengatesan Venugopal and Dr. Encarni Medina-Lopez.

The topic of the research project is “Assessment of the Impacts of Ocean Plastic Wastes in Developing Countries: A Case study for Indonesia”. The focus of research revolves around the propagation of marine waste using physical oceanographic indications with a pre-surveyed mass of garbage.

This collaboration grant will also hold workshops in Edinburgh and in Jatinangor. At the same time, researchers from Unpad, UTM Malaysia, Universiti Malaya and the University of Edinburgh are also participating in an international NERC grant related to reducing plastic waste in Southeast Asia.
