[unpad.ac.id, 15/7/2020] A research team from the Universitas Padjadjaran Faculty of Medicine is preparing a clinical trial of the COVID-19 vaccine together with Bio Farma and Sinovac Biotech, China. The Chinese vaccine will be administered to 1,620 volunteers in Bandung, following vaccine clinical trial procedures.
The head of the research team, Prof. Dr. Kusnandi Rusmil, dr., Sp.A(K), M.M., explained that the trial will be conducted after obtaining approval from the Unpad Research Ethics Committee. Once the trials are approved, the injection process will be carried out in 6 locations; the Unpad Teaching Hospital, Unpad Dipati Ukur Campus, and at 4 public health centers in Bandung.
Prof Kusnandi ensured that the trial will consider the safety of the volunteers through insurance. This preventative effort has been incorporated into the work plan currently being reviewed by the Ethics Committee. Healthy volunteers will be injected with the vaccine twice, 14 days apart. For 7 months, the team will periodically supervise and monitor each volunteer. From his analysis, the vaccine will create immunity to the COVID-19 virus in 28 days.
