[unpad.ac.id, 26/10/2020] Delegation from Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) won two championships at the National Student Exhibition in Information, Communication, and Technology (Gemastik) XIII held by the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education and Culture, online at Telkom University, on 21st until 23rd October 2020.
In this event, Unpad won two championships, namely first place or a gold medal in the ICT paper writing category and first place in the poster competition category. Thanks to the gold medal in the ICT paper writing category, Unpad has made it into the top 10 winners of the 2020 Gemastik XIII.
The “BudakIT” team who won a gold medal in the writing category consists of three Unpad Information Technology students, which are Muhammad Razzaq Fadilah, Suriadi Vajrakaruna, and Birgitta Laura Tjoa.
The team raised the title “Implementation of Quantum Computing in Processing Simple Question Answering (QA) in Indonesian Using Pregroup Grammar Modeling”.
In brief, Razzaq and his team’s paper raises the idea of using quantum computing technology to carry out the question and answer process on a system or server.
Unlike the existing QA system, Razzaq and his team tried to develop a QA system using new quantum computing technologies. This technology is considered to be still not widely practiced.
Razzaq, who has an interest in quantum computing technology, later found an article about the development of QA in English using this technology. “We are also interested in doing the same thing but using the Indonesian language,” said Razzaq.
Accompanied by Universitas Padjadajaran’s Information Technology lecturer, Dr. Afrida Helen, M.T., Razzaq, and his team succeeded in developing an experiment of a simple QA system in Indonesian. This system is able to provide correct facts on probing questions.
Based on the results of the selection and presentation in front of the judges, the “BudakIT” team also won a gold medal, followed by a team from Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS) as the second winner, and a team from Gunadarma University as the third winner.
Meanwhile, the non-medal winner in the poster category was won by the “Clever Leam” team, which consisted of Unpad Information Technology students, namely Agnes Hata, Benedict Juan Carlo P., and Muhammad Risqullah Sudanta alongside their supervisor, Dr. Mira Suryani, M.Kom.
Agnes explained that the theme raised in the poster was the design of educational applications during the pandemic. “We provide a solution to the current problem, which is the difficulty of school children in having a proper network and/or equipment to support distance learning (PJJ), by using Diksia,” she explained.*
