[unpad.ac.id, 22/9/2020] Prof. Dr. Ganjar Kurnia, DEA, was chosen as the Unpad Academic Senate Chairperson for the 2020-2025 period. Prof. Ganjar was chosen based on majority vote by members of the 2020-2025 Unpad Academic Senate during the Plenum held on Monday (21/9).

Prof. Ganjar Kurnia was officially positioned as the Chair of Unpad Academic Senate, together with the 2020-2025 Unpad Academic Senate Secretary, Dr. Yoni Fuadah Syukriani, dr., M.Si., Sp.F., DFM, during the following Plenum that was held online and offline on Tuesday (22/9).

“This is a mandate. Receiving a mandate is an honor, and honor should be held as a responsibility,” said Prof. Ganjar

In his speech, Prof. Ganjar said that the main duty of the Academic Senate onward is to uphold the vision and missions of Unpad. One of the targets is to make Unpad enter the Top 500 World’s best universities.

“This is the goal. However, the most important thing is that this goal is a target that we wish to achieve and it needs process,” he explained.

The effort to achieve that target is not easy. Unpad’s position in the World’s rank has several national competitors. The current competitors are not only from state universities, but also include private universities.

This 10th Unpad Rector explained that there is a list of work agendas for the future of the Unpad Academic Senate. The first is about Unpad’s academic reputation indicator. If Unpad wants to increase the academic reputation indicator, one of the ways to do this is to produce excellent graduates.

Another worthy note is to balance the ratio of lecturers and students in Unpad. Prof. Ganjar Kurnia explained that the effort to increase the number of lecturers need ideas and other alternative breakthroughs. Collaboration is needed to achieve this.

“Actually if only we could improve a few aspects, Insyaallah in 1 or 2 years we could get closer to the number 500, and later by 2024, our hope to enter the World’s top 500 will be achieved,” said Prof. Ganjar Kurnia.

Prof. Ganjar also appreciated the work of the 2015-2020 Academic Senate that was once led by Prof. Oekan S. Abdoellah, PhD. “We only need to continue [their work],” he said.*
