[unpad.ac.id, 8/9/2020] The Career Development Center of Universitas Padjadjaran, together with the Unpad Faculty of Communication Science (Fikom) and Sindonews held the ‘Sindo Goes to Campus’ seminar remotely on Tuesday (8/9).

The event was officially opened by the Unpad Director of Student Affairs and Alumni, Dr. Eng. Boy Yoseph. This event discussed the ‘Opportunities and Challenges of Digital Content Monetization in Indonesia’.

Using this opportunity, a lecturer of Fikom Unpad, Detta Rahmawan, M.A., described the opportunities of local media in the midst of the digital era. This specific form of media has great potential in the digital media business sector.

“Although we are talking about digital content monetization which could be national, regional, or even international, the media that should receive more attention are the media that are becoming increasingly relevant and have a local or hyperlocal context,” said Detta.

Other than that, sustainable media businesses need to have research, data, and testing. In this regard, industries could work together with universities in doing research.

“Research, data, and testing are very important to monetize digital content and give that extra value for the media or content creator,” said Detta.

Furthermore, in monetizing digital content, it is important to have creative, innovative, and contextualized content. Besides that, it is also necessary to have an understanding of the ecosystem.

“In learning monetization, we don’t only learn about the media, but we also need to learn about technology, advertising schemes, and sociocultural context. So the ecosystem is important”, said Detta.

Another speaker, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Sindonews, Puguh Hariyanto, described the strategies used by Sindonews in tackling the opportunities and challenges in today’s digital era. One of them is to pay attention to the content packaging.

“Content is King, and packaging is its Queen. Besides having good content, you also need to have good packaging,” said Puguh.

Puguh elaborated, that besides having an interesting display, the website also needs to be easily accessible. The webpage needs to be easy and reachable for the readers.
“No matter how great the content is, if it is hard to access, it will be abandoned”, he said.(arm)*
