[unpad.ac.id, 3/14/2019] The Computer-Based Writing Test (UTBK) as a requirement to enroll for the 2019 Joint Entrance Selection of State Universities (SBMPTN) will be conducted from the middle of April 2019. Universitas Padjadjaran as the UTBK coordinator is ready to facilitate the exam.
Unpad Rector, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad said, the UTBK system has been developed in a very exact and reliable manner. Various preparations and developments have been done carefully.
“God’s will (Insha-Allah), this system is reliable because we don’t play around developing it,” he said when he was interviewed in his office on Wednesday (3/13).
The implementation of UTBK itself has actually been carried out since 2016, as one of the methods in the SBMPTN. Every year, UTBK is opened with a scale of participants that has continuously been increased. For this year, the SBMPTN has entirely used the UTBK method.
In addition, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad advised to exam participants to worry not about the UTBK implementation being constrained by system or network problems. Trial of the UTBK system has been conducted simultaneously in all regions in Indonesia. As a result, this system has been running well.
The standards for implementing UTBK have also been developed strictly. This standard will be applied in all UTBK operators in Indonesia. Thus, the quality of the UTBK system will be equal in each region.
Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad explained that the UTBK method has more advantages compared to the written test method. The computer-based method developed by the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education aims to make higher education more appropriate for prospective students.
To realize this goal, the selection mechanism was developed more specifically. In previous years UTBK was attended by participants who had registered for the SBMPTN. This year, participants must join UTBK first in order to get the results.
From the results of UTBK, participants would later get a recommendation to choose a suitable study program through the SBMPTN pathway.
“In the past, we only knew (the students’) competencies through psychological test in high school. Now, from the 2 types of tests available in UTBK, each test score obtained by participants can be matched with the intended study program, “said the Chancellor.
Furthermore, two types of tests in UTBK consist of a scholastic potential test and an academic potential test. Each type of the test can determine participants’ competencies towards the intended study program.
Every study program offered by each university on the SBMPTN already has its own weighting data. Participants just need to adjust the UTBK test results with the weight of the study program. This system is considered to be more encouraging for participants to really choose study programs that are in accordance with their competencies.
“For students, choosing a study program is important because it affects the path of their career in the future,” said Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad.
Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad ensured that the questions tested in UTBK is in accordance with materials that had been studied by students in high school. “We shall not provide test material whose capacity is not owned by high school students,” he remarked.
In addition, UTBK avoids participants from filling errors. Because it is technology based, participants do not have to bother blackening the answer sheet. This method is considered easier for participants to do.
UTBK registration is opened in 2 waves. The first wave is from March 1 to March 24. While the second wave is from March 25 to April 1 2019. The registration can done via the registration page-utbk.ltmpt.ac.id.
Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad revealed that unlike the previous UTBK which was held simultaneously for one day, this year UTBK was held for several days. The UTBK test for the first wave of registrants is conducted April 13 to May 4 2019. While the UTBK test for the second wave is held on May 11 to May 26, 2019.
When registering, participants are given the option to choose the test date and time of the exam which consists of a morning or afternoon session.
Participants may participate in UTBK a maximum of 2 times with the following conditions: registering once for Saintek ‘Science and Technology’ (Grouping for faculties/major choices in Indonesia) and then registering once for Soshum ‘Social Sciences’, and vice versa, or registering twice for the same group (Saintek/Soshum). *
