[unpad.ac.id, 03/11/2019] Universitas Padjadjaran has just lost one of its best professors. The Professor of the Faculty of Dentistry Unpad, Prof. Dr. H. Bergman Thahar, drg., Sp.Ort (K), died at the age of 72 at Santosa Hospital, Bandung, Monday (11/3) at 3:50 a.m. WIB.
Prof. Bergman was born in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, October 5, 1946. He completed his Dentistry Professional study in 1973, an Orthodontic Specialist in 1988, and a Doctoral study in 1998. All of his educational programs were completed at Unpad.
Serving as a lecturer in the Orthodontics Department of Unpad Faculty of Dentistry, he achieved the position of Professor in the field of Orthodontics. In addition to actively teaching, researching, and opening dental practice, he was also active in the field of professional organizations, one of which was he being the advisor for the Indonesian Orthodontic Association for 2017-2020 period.
In the field of research, his last position was as a research chairperson of the Unpad Academic Leadership Grant (ALG) study with the title “Relationship of Malocclusion Severity with Confidence and Orthodontic Care Needs towards Improving the Quality of Life for Sundanese Youth in West Java”.
He received the last tribute in the ceremony held at the Al Jihad Mosque in Unpad campus, Dipati Ukur 35, Bandung, Monday (11/3). On this occasion, Unpad Deputy Chancellor for Finance and Resources, Prof. Arief Sjamsulaksan Kartasasmita, PhD expressed his condolences.
“We know that he was a consistent, highly dedicated figure in endeavoring the improvement of his students’ education,” said Prof. Arief.
After the release, the deceased was buried at Sirnaraga Public Cemetery, Bandung City. *
