Pre-departure Information

You may need to check the following items before you leave your home country.
• Have a thorough medical and dental check-up.
• Make photocopies of your passport, visa and any other important documents. Leave a set at home and put another set in your luggage.
• It is important to confirm your accommodation, at least your temporary accommodation
• Open a credit card account. Credit cards are not usually issued to overseas students in Indonesia

Financial Security
• Personal Account for Cash
Bring enough money with you to cover initial expenses for the first month, such as accommodation (rent, bond, utilities, and furnishings), study materials, personal effects, food and transport, of at least 5 million rupiah in cash. It will take a few days before you are financially settled after your arrival in Indonesia. On the other hand, you will definitely need an easy access to your financial source for immediate expense when you abroad. It would be more convenient if you have relevant international account from your country or bank account corresponding to banks in Indonesia. Ensure that cash access is easy, for example from ATMs or money transfer. There are quite a number of banks with international network available in Indonesia. Major International credit card are accepted in Indonesia.You may need to seek information as much as possible before deciding which bank you can trust to manage your cash abroad. If you have limited knowledge about it, you can obtain advice from your current bank.

• Corresponding Accounts to Universitas Padjadjaran
Apart from that, we also recommend that you open an account in one of the banks that has been in cooperation with Universitas Padjadjaran. Universitas Padjadjaran has partnered with them to facilitate students in paying their academic fees payment. Since the payment is done in host-to-host (online) system, having an account in one of those banks will give you convenience whenever you need to pay academic fees each semester.However, opening an account in Indonesian local banks may take times. You need to provide copy of KITAS (Limited Stay Permit) and copy of passport. The minimum amount of money that you have to deposit to the account may vary. Please note that if you do not have an account in one of the university corresponding banks, you have to pay academic fees by cash. Paying academic fees by bank draft is not acceptable.

Insurance
Having insurance is recommended before you leave your home country. However, you need to ensure that the insurance covers services worldwide. There are quite a number of reputable international insurance companies available in Indonesia.

Communication Device
As you are arrived in Indonesia, you may need to let your family or friends know that you have arrived safely. You will also probably need to make a contact with people in your home country for emergency. You will need to bring communication device that allows you to keep in touch with them. Most cellular device providers operate globally. Should you have any problem with it, you can find the service center without any difficulties.

You may use International Office as a temporary forwarding address for mail or until you find a permanent accommodation. The address is:

Personal Belongings
Clothing
Students usually dress informally to go to campus. Most of the time, they wear jeans or trousers with casual shirts, T-shirts or blouses and sneakers. However, shorts and sandals are usually not allowed. During rainy season, a jumper/sweater/pullover or sweat shirt will be sufficient.Men suit and appropriate dress or suit for women is commonly worn in formal functions like graduation ceremony. Yet, you do not have to bring too many personal items for your necessities in Indonesia. Universitas Padjadjaran is located near by malls and shopping centers that provide customers with daily needs, clothing and electronics equipment. Indonesia has only tropical season which is usually rainy from October to March and sunny in from April to September. So, you do not have to bring too many seasonal clothing.

Documents to Bring
As an international student, you will need to bring documents such as important legal personal identification, records relevant to your education, documents related to your admission to Universitas Padjadjaran, and financial documents. However, you should have your own checklist of documents that you consider important according to your needs.
