[unpad.ac.id, 24/9/2019] Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Republic of Indonesia Prof. Mohamad Nasir inaugurated the Universitas Padjadjaran Science and Technology Building or “KST Padjadjaran”. The inauguration was done through the signing of the inscription by Mohamad Nasir in the Auditorium KST Padjadjaran Building, Unpad campus in Jatinangor, on Tuesday (9/24).
On this occasion, Mohamad Nasir hoped KST Padjadjaran could be better and become a pioneer of a mature KST in Indonesia. KST Unpad was also expected to become an important facility for Unpad to benefit the world.
“If this becomes a mature KST, in the future it will generate revenue for Universitas Padjadjaran,” said Prof. Nasir.
According to Nasir, to be able to improve, the KST ecosystem must be built properly. One of the parts that need to be built is what is produced by inventors and innovators. Inventors and innovators are researchers who have talents in innovation research and development.
“It’s pointless for an area of science and technology if there are no inventors and innovators,” he said.
The next stage is the publication and commercialization of research results. According to Prof. Nasir, innovation can be commercialized if there is a development site. Thus, the business can run smoothly. Collaboration between government, business and researchers is also important.
After the business becomes an added value for KST, it is necessary to build a university holding. “Holding innovations, holding these tenants to generate revenue for a university. Moreover, Universitas Padjadjaran has become a corporate university. This becomes very important, “said Prof. Nasir.
Nasir added, KST is expected to not only sell products. KST must be able to produce research. Therefore, students, especially those from the Doctoral program need to be included. The laboratory is also directed to produce publications and innovations.
Prof. Nasir also appreciated the leap of innovation made by Universitas Padjadjaran. Padadjaran KST building is expected to be a stimulus to become KST that can produce even better benefits for Unpad.
“I saw the innovations, I was quite proud that the growth of Universitas Padjadjaran was extraordinary in its innovation,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Acting Unpad Rector (Acting) Prof. Dr. Rina Indiastuti, S.E., M.SIE., hoped that this KST in Unpad could be beneficial for the development of West Java and national communities. The KST Padjadjaran building was built with facilities from the Kemenristekdikti.
“We thank the Minister for the construction facilities of the KST Padjadjaran building and their institutional development,” said Prof. Rina.
Furthermore, Prof. Rina said that KST Padjadjaran was expected to function as a pilot center and center for technology transfer. This building has also been utilized for various activities, mainly related to the three main functions of KST, namely incubation, technology transfer services, and technology and expert services.
Prof. Rina explained that the competitive advantage of KST Padjadjaran is to carry the value of green innovation, with an advance material focus on agro-technology. This value is in line with Unpad’s Principal Scientific Pattern, namely “Bina Mulia Hukum dan Lingkungan Hidup dalam Pembangunan Nasional”.
“We really hope that the Padjadjaran KST development, which has been provided with facilities and funding through the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemeristekdikti), can make KST become more independent and have more impact on the development of West Java and national society,” said Prof. Rina.
On this occasion the Vice-Rector for Research, Community Engagement, Cooperation, Innovation, and Business Dr. Keri Lestari, S.Si., M.Si., Apt. said that the KST Padjadjaran development was one of the innovation management strategies at Unpad.
“Unpad already has one of the innovation management strategies in which the research developed at the Directorate of Research and Community Service is innovated in the Directorate of Cooperation, we look for partners, then make incubations, downstream through the Sins Zone and this technology is commercialized,” explained. Dr. Keri
KST Padjadjaran itself has been initiated since August 2015 and the building began construction in July 2016. Furthermore, the establishment of a center of excellence and incorporation of KST business incubators was carried out in 2018. This year, KST institutions have been formed.
“Hopefully this will be part of the real work of Universitas Padjadjaran for the progress and economic independence of Indonesia,” hoped Dr. Keri
This occasion also included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Unpad and PT Digital Truk and BRI Microfinance Center on the facilitation of the development of Sumedang Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
In addition, a Cooperation Agreement between Unpad and Sumedang Regency, PT Digital Truk and BRI Microfinance was signed on smart farming based on research utilization for the community in Sumedang Regency. *
