[unpad.ac.id, 11/9/2019] The Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ignasius Jonan, delivered a scientific oration themed “equitable energy” (energi berkeadilan) during the 62nd Dies Natalis celebration of Universitas Padjadjaran. The event took place in Grha Sanusi Hardjadinata Unpad, Jl. Dipati Ukur No. 35, Bandung, on Wednesday (11/9).
In his oration, Jonan explained challenges and efforts regarding how energy, especially water and electricity, has the potential to provide welfare to all Indonesians.
“For us in the ESDM ministry, the capabilities that we have can be utilized for others’ welfare, for the welfare of us all,” Jonan said.
The effort to realize the equitable energy slogan is the implementation of the fifth principle (sila) of Pancasila, which reads “social justice to all Indonesians” (keadilan sosial bagi seluruh rakyat Indonesia). This effort is shown in all public services and development programs in the ESDM Ministry.
In regards to the electricity, Jonan explained the hope of the Indonesian Government is to provide electricity to all Indonesians.
“The government wants an additional 35.000 MW power plant. The spirit is not to build more, rather the spirit is to serve more Indonesians, everyone that lives from Sabang to Merauke. It is an illumination and electricity service,” Jonan explained.
Moreover, Jonan also elaborated how access to clean water is a great challenge that Indonesia is facing. “Around 17% of our people have no easy access to clean water at a reasonable price,” Jonan explained.
