This was stated by the President Director of PT. Pertamina Bina Medika (Pertamedika) IHC, Dany Amrul Ichdan, while giving a public lecture to hundreds of Padjadjaran University students at Bale Sawala, Jatinangor campus Unpad Rectorate building on Wednesday (6/3).

In building superior character, Dany mentioned that leaders need to build confidence by looking at the conditions directly in the field. According to Dany, trust would be difficult to build if the leader does not involved directly into the field.

In addition, it is also necessary to build commitment and legacy. Dany said that many people nowadays think only for short term and are oblivious about legacy. Their work orientations are only money, position, and maintaining power.

“We think of legacy as how this company wants to give a 5-10 years inheritance. Whether it develop into, being something, kind of big corporation, or competing with foreign countries. Now that’s our legacy to our children and grandchildren, “Dani said.

Furthermore, Dany said that being a leader in this VUCA era is about execution and trust. A leader can have a dream or plan, but it will not be reality if it is not executed. If you cannot execute a program or decision, it will be difficult to gain trust.

“This is the success of a CEO in the millennial era, what is measured is execution, not dreams,” said Dany.

Dany said, nowadays many people become dreamers but fail in the aspect of execution. In order for successful execution, it is also necessary to get out of Big Company Syndrome to be able to face various challenges in this digital era.

“We break through the VUCA era, break through digitalization, master Artificial Intelligence, enter in all ways, encourage ourselves to become the leaders and not be afraid of anything except to leave the legacy,” said Dany.

Dany also advised to the students to always have a life plan. According to him, it’s not only companies that can have a roadmap, life also needs to have a roadmap. To make it happen, a timeline is required.

“Good leader is not a good dreamer. Good leader is a good executor. So, if you become a good leader, he must be a good executor,” remarked Dany.

The public lecture was held as part of the Public Lecture of the SOE Directors. In her opening remarks, Deputy Chancellor for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Academic Corporations, Dr. Keri Lestari, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt., said that the public lecture is a very valuable activity for students to be able to see directly the character of a leader.

“Because in an education, we (should) not only provide substantive content from science, but the most important thing is how to build character,” said Dr. Keri.

On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Vice Chancellor for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Unpad Academic Corporation, Dr. Keri Lestari, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt., with the Director of PT Pertamedika IHC Dany Amrul Ichdan. The cooperation is about developing and utilizing education, research, and placement of Unpad alumni in IHC member hospitals. *
