[unpad.ac.id, 17/9/2019] Three Biology students from the Universitas Padjadjaran Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, Fikri Ilmi, Dede Sukriman, and Anwar Nasrudin won second place as well as Best Presentation in the Scientific Writing Contest (LKTI) TGC in Action (TIA) at IPB University, 6–20 September 2019.
This competition was held by Tree Grower Community, a Profession Association at the Department of Silviculture, Faculty of Forestry, IPB in collaboration with the International Conference on Tropical Silviculture (ICTS).
The theme for this Scientific Writing Contest was “Indonesia Forest Sustainable Development”. This theme was divided into several other sub-themes, which are biodiversity, forest fire and climate change, agroforestry and forest plantation, ecosystem services, non-timber forest products, uneven-aged silviculture, and forest degradation and rehabilitation.
“We chose the ecosystem services sub-theme with the title ‘Reorientasi Manajemen Urbanisasi Melalui Pengembangan Ruang Terbuka Hijau di Perkotaan Indonesia Menuju SDGs Tahun 2030’ (Reorienting Urbanization Management through the Development of Green Open Spaces in Indonesian Cities Towards Achieving 2030 SDGs),” said Fikri.
These three Unpad students were advised by Dr.rer.nat Tri Dewi K. Priadi, M.Si. The competition started with the sending of abstracts and posters, then the full papers. Ten qualified participants presented their ideas in front of the judges, and were then selected for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Participants who succeed in getting the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place must send their posters back which will be exhibited at the 2nd International Conference on Tropical Silviculture, an International Seminar. The seminar was also held by the Silviculture Department of IPB University’s Faculty of Forestry. The winners also received free tickets for the seminar.
Fikri said that he was proud to be able to carry Unpad to a national level competition and defeat opponents who had deep understanding in the field.
“Our success is not only the result of our own hard work but from the support of other external parties that help ease up every difficulty,” said Fikri.
Fikri hoped that Biology students can participate in various other competitions. “I hope that Unpad friends can be more enthusiastic to pursue the highest achievements for the sake of our alma mater,” said Fikri.*
